Dear St. John's
Parishioner,
On Wednesday, August 19th, a small delegation from St.
John's travelled to Silver Creek NY to assist in the clean-up
process from the terrible flooding resulting from the recent
storm. The group was comprised of Pastor John, Chris Grauer,
Nick Woodard and Alex Woodard. Pastor John took a few pictures
at the work site which are presented here and give you
a feeling for the devastation they encountered. We thank the
work crew for their efforts and pray for the many people
effected by the flooding that they may resume their normal
lives soon.
The August 22nd ELCA
Newsletter gives an informative update on the
efforts of the Lutheran Disaster Relief Team (Including
the St. John's Team) in responding to the flooded areas.
It also discusses how you personally may help in the recovery
efforts. | |

Display
Issue With St. John's Web Site Home
Page
It has come to our attention that web
browsers OTHER than Microsoft Internet Explorer (I.E.
Firefox. Opera, Safari) may not be properly displaying our web site home page. Those using a
browser other than Microsoft Internet Explorer can perform a
simple test to determine if their browser is affected. Simply
go to the home page and see if there are
clickable links on the upper left side of the page under
"Crossbeam on the Web" and on the upper right side under
"What's New" and "EMail Newsletters". If you do not see those
titles and links, your browser is one of the
ones impacted. There are other display issues as well,
but of a less serious nature. Please note
that the home
page is the ONLY page affected
on our web site. We are working diligently to find a
solution ASAP. In the meantime, those affected may
want to consider using Microsoft Internet Explorer,
which is pre-installed on all PCs (Not Macs), when viewing our
web site.

Thank you to the many people who have
purchased items through our web store. We hope you are satisfied
with your purchase(s). We still need everyone's help however
in making the store the success we feel it can be. Most of the
purchases to date have been "small ticket" items, usually
under $50. We could really use some "big ticket" items, like
TVs, computers, etc. Remember, St. John's receives a
commission of 4-15% for every item purchased through our
store. We also need participation from people outside the
St. John's community. Spread the word to your friends,
business associates, etc. Be sure to tell them that the prices
of merchandise purchased through our store are
identical to those at Amazon.com. The web store is an
important part of our fund raising activities for our new
building. If you've yet to purchase an item through our store,
try it. You'll like it, and most of all, you'll be helping St.
Johns in this important
project. |

Thought of the Day
Kiss Me Gently On The Forehead
Kiss me gently on the forehead. Hold my
hand then let me go. Whisper Jesus' words so
gently. Tell me that He loves me so.
Tell me that my Savior's
caring. Outstretched arms will welcome me. Bonds are
severed from earth's trials. Fears have vanished, I am
free.
Tell me that my Lord is calling. (I am
tired, weak and old.) Tell me that my Home is
waiting. Where the streets are paved in gold.
Whisper words of Him so gently. (Saved by
Christ, Who loves me so.) Kiss me gently on the
forehead.
Hold my hand then let me go!
- Betty G.
