For the 3rd year, St. John's will again be participating in the Annual Harvest House baby shower. In 2024, Harvest House was helping 600 children per month. This year, that number has swelled to almost 800 children per month. Federal poverty incomes will increase by just 5% in 2025. Basic baby supplies are expected to increase by 24% or more. This will force families to decide between paying rent, utility bills or caring for their children. Your help is critical!
Brand new items needed most:
Diapers (sizes 2 - 5), Socks for children age 3+, Clothing (newborn to 5T), Bottles and feeding supplies, baby hygiene products (wipes, creams, etc.)
Sunday School is in need of volunteers, to be ready for September. If you are interested in volunteering for a few hours each Sunday, please contact Megan Marrano or Tracey Pepper.
Are you passionate about early childhood education and ready to make a difference? Join our warm and welcoming preschool family! Qualified candidates will have NYS certification. Recent grads are welcome! We will train you! Message sjcommunityps@gmail.com for more info!
Tuesday July 29 the Burrito Project once again took us downtown to provide for our neighbors on the streets. This time was a bit different from others. Despite preparing over 100 meals, we were forced to turn people away with no food. This was very sad for us since we try very hard to have enough and maybe a little extra to give more to those who would like more. In addition, our personal hygiene supplies are now very low. We are scheduled to go out again on the last Tuesday of September. That is only two months away. There is a lot for us to do in order to be ready.
Thank you, to the dedicated people who contributed their time to make this happen. A big thanks as well, to those who provided personal care items for the project. This is an undertaking that requires a lot of people. We are blessed to have you. We are also grateful for the financial support provided by Thrivent Financial. Everyone involved should give themselves a pat on the back, and thank God that we are able to do it.
God gave us all special talents. As a thank you, it's up to you to use those talents in His church. There are many opportunities here at St. John's, and it doesn't have to be complicated or overly time consuming. It could be helping with altar guild, folding bulletins, ushering, reading lessons, church maintenance, Burrito Project, etc. What are your talents? Make 2025 the year you use your talents to God's glory! Contact the church office to sign up!
The Prayer Labyrinth Walk is held on the second Wednesday of every month, year-round, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Prayer Labyrinth is in the Parish Hall. Each hour, there are 15 minute segments, with 3 slots available during each 15-minute segment, so that up to 3 people can walk the labyrinth at a time. People should sign up on the sheet on the counter in the lobby ahead of time, to accommodate everyone who would like to take part.
Prayer Labyrinths have been used for thousands of years by many religions and Christian denominations as a spiritual, meditative, and prayer tool.
If anyone has a question, please send an email to this address: prayerlabyrinth@gmail.com.
Despite the poor weather conditions, on New Year's Eve the Burrito Project team was doing our normal thing. We prepared and fed over 100 burritos to the homeless; but that's not all of what we consider to be normal. We distributed blankets and as much warm clothing as we had on hand. It's a difficult job; but it's made easier by what we have.
What we have is people who work hard and love doing the work. There are people who prepare the meals, people who go out and distribute what we have to the poor and homeless. We have Thrivent Financial paying for the food ingredients and we have the people who generously contribute the personal care items that are given to those in need.
Thank you to everyone. Your participation makes doing this possible.
The next time we will be doing our normal thing will be at the end of April.
